Fiesta Foods intern partnership with Yakima Valley Community Foundation.
Story
Fiesta Foods has partnered with the Yakima Valley Community Foundations’ Act Six/Ready to Rise Program to offer scholars a hands-on internship opportunity within the Social Media & Communications Department. We are excited to have Elvia Valdovinos on board with our team!
Elvia Valdovinos Cruz was born in Coalcoman Michoacan, Mexico. She is the youngest of eleven siblings and the first female in her family who is pursuing higher education. When she was ten years old, she was given the opportunity to move to the U.S. where she was to continue her education. As a first-generation student to attend college, Elvia understands the importance of pursuing a higher education. As a high school student, for 3 consecutive years, The Hispanic Academic Achievers Program (HAAP) awarded her certificates for academic outstanding. Her senior year in high school, she was awarded a HAAP and the Act Six Full-Ride Leadership scholarship to Heritage University. Additionally, she was involved with the College Success Foundation, the Family Career and Community Leaders of America, and Running Start Program.
Elvia is a rising Sophomore at Heritage University majoring in Social Work and minoring in Psychology. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, she hopes to obtain a master’s degree in Social Work, and if possible, a PHD. Her goal is to work for an organization that allows her to serve minorities in the United States by providing counseling, connecting individuals to valuable resources, and advocating for the preservation of policies and programs that benefit these communities.
After being part of the Hispanic Academic Achievers Program for over 3 years, Elvia wanted to come back and serve the organization that has supported her throughout her college career. Currently, Elvia is the first Act Six/Ready to Rise and Fiesta Foods intern. Because Fiesta Foods sponsors the Hispanic Academic Achievers Program, she decided to take the internship position on the Social Media and Communications Department at Fiesta Foods.
As the Act Six/Ready to Rise and Fiesta Foods intern, Elvia hopes to educate herself and learn the process of media making and communications at a marketing level. She believes that this experience will allow her to obtain skills that will help her have knowledge on other work practices that are outside of her field of study. She is sure that this internship will help her obtain part of the necessary preparation needed to succeed in school, work, and life!
